The Weaver  49 x 38

Artist’s Statement:

This tiny Indian woman has set up her hand loom on the edge of a cliff in the breath-taking Copper Canyon, Mexico. In contrast to the brown tones of her surroundings, she creates a vivid picture in her vibrant primary colours, a compelling advertisement for her wares. Like other women of the Tarahumara tribe, she is the principal provider of family income through the sale of her goods to tourists who visit this famous site.

Techniques:

Machine raw edge appliqué, machine quilted, hand dyed and commercial fabrics and tulle.
