Ice Prisms of Spring  28 x 25

Artist's Statement: The break-up of lake ice is the last act of winter and the prelude to spring. The forces of sun, wind, rain and fluctuating temperatures work on the ice changing shape, colour and texture from chunky white floes to glistening ice; from black ice and open water to sparkling prisms.

This hanging was inspired by photographs taken as the changing ice-scape unfolded on the lake in front of our house.

Medium/ Technique: Curved paper piecing, cotton, tulle, lamé, yarn, beads; thread painting with metallics and rayon.

Awards: Judges Choice Award, National Juried Show, 2002Edmonton Art Gallery

Honourable Mention, The Grand National, 2003, Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery
