Black Ice  23 x 43

Artist’s Statement: Black ice can be both beautiful and treacherous depending on whether it forms a winter ice road or surreptitiously coats the highway to catch the unwary motorist.

Ice crystals are hexagonal in shape. This shape is used in this piece to symbolically represent black ice. The hexagon is the shape used in the grandmother’s flower garden quilting pattern that I used here.

Medium/ Technique: English paper piecing, machine appliqué, machine quilted, cotton and lamé.
