![]() Born in Brockville Ontario, I grew up in the small town of Morrisburg, Ontario where my parents owned a tourist resort called Allison Farms Resort. Life for our family changed radically in the 1950’s with the development of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The resort land for which I have so many fond memories now lies under water. I completed high school in Morrisburg and then went on to Carleton University and Ottawa Teachers’ College. I started teaching in Kenora and then took some time to raise a family of three. When I came back to work, I returned to teach art. I retired from teaching in 1997. I have dabbled in a number of art forms including painting, but found that creating works using fabric is the most satisfying to me. I began with some of the traditional patterned quilts but soon moved to creating original landscapes and pictorial quilts. I use photographs for inspiration but also enjoy creating directly from the visions in my head. Experimentation is always a delight regardless of the final product. Water, in its many forms has been a major influence in my work probably because I have lived in a home, on the water, all my life. I continue my love for teaching by teaching classes in quilting techniques, which, I’m pleased to say, have been favourably received by those attending. Check the Workshop link for classes currently offered. Nancy Bergman 2007
