Arizona Tessellation  33 x 33

Artist’s Statement:  I have spent the last few winters in Arizona.  My colour impressions are in direct contrast to the popular pastels associated with the southwest.  Here, the sun is intense, a blazing orange pinwheel against a vivid blue sky.  Tall Saguaro cacti dominate the landscape.  In the evening the mountains are deep purple silhouettes against the restful cool blue of twilight.  To overcome the challenge of piecing accurate curves, I have developed an original paper piecing technique which I used for this quilt.

Medium/Technique:  Curved paper piecing, machine and hand quilted, cotton, metallic thread.
